Belkyra (known as Kybella in the U.S.) is a new, non-surgical injectable product that eliminates fat that under the chin. It is made of deoxycholic acid, a product naturally secreted by the liver, which destroys fat cells in the intestine.
When injected into chin fat, it disintegrates the fat cells, which will be eliminated by the body over the course of the next 30 days. Specialized training is needed to use this product because it must not be injected into nearby skin, muscles or nerves.
As a plastic surgeon specializing in cranio-maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Léonard Bergeron is an expert in the anatomy of the face and neck. He is thoroughly proficient in this technique and, thanks to his highly skilled hands, you’ll get the results you are seeking.
Note that Belkyra is not suitable for everyone. Some people with a double chin will benefit instead from chin surgery or neck liposuction, while others will need a neck lift. During your consultation, Dr. Bergeron will recommend the treatment that best suits your needs.

Intervention
A Belkyra injection procedure takes 30 minutes in Dr. Bergeron’s office. Usually two, and sometimes three, sessions are needed to get the desired results.
Convalescence
- As there is significant swelling the days following the injection, it is preferable to take a week off from work. To reduce swelling, it will be recommended to keep the head elevated at a 30º angle at all times for 2 weeks (it will be necessary to sleep in a semi-upright position).
- Any residual swelling will go away during the next three weeks.
- Two postoperative appointments will be scheduled: the first, one week following the intervention; the second, a month and a half after the procedure.
