Many patients with cleft lips or cleft palates were treated in their childhood. However, over the years, correction techniques have been perfected and other ways of providing better results are now available.

Some patients could benefit from a lip and the scar revision while for others, nose surgery (rhinoplasty) would be helpful to make the nose symmetrical and improve airflow.

For adults who still have trouble speaking because of significant air leakage in their nasal cavities (velopharyngeal inadequacy or VPI), corrective surgery (pharyngoplasty, pharyngeal flap, etc.) could be considered.

Dr. Bergeron corrects cleft lip and palate sequelae in patients aged 15 and older. Contact him for an assessment.
